PhD at ÖH Akbild in summer 2025

Paid PhD Positions

After a long struggle our activities show fruits. We – for the first time – managed to get paid PhD Positions. In a collective effort we managed to keep a rather open and broad frame in the curriculum for the dissertation in philosophy (dr phil) while implementing a so called “structured PhD”. This step was necessary to get the money for the prae doc positions from the ministry. Currently there are three positions that we would encourage everyone to apply to:

Applying as a PhD Student of the Akademie also shows the Institution the demand for support structures in our effort to write dissertations.

The plan is to implement more positions over the next semesters. So please stay tuned on this.

Political Activities + Support for Students‘ Projects

And once again we not just hosted and supported a range of activities but also conceptualized events. On top we supported initiatives, organizations and workshops by students to take place.

A little sneak peak of what was happening in the last months: we pushed for outside the box narratives regarding political, geopolitical, social questions of “the middle east” with supporting the Peoples Conference in February. With bringing the first out of four Symposiums of the One State Embassy to the Akademie in June we hosted an event that takes up rather unpopular narratives around Peace.

Additional in this line we screened the Oscar winning documentary “No Other Land” accompanied with a talk by activist and residents from the area the film takes place.

Our Collaboration with the Fortuna Cinema in the 10th district came into full effect. We hosted two Film Nights taking up the theme around Social Struggle. Bringing Jeremy Deller “The Battle of Orgreave” to the Cinema and opened up for some questions around Artivism that we took up with the curator Anne Zühlke. In relation we hosted an event in May where we screened two Films and talked about social struggles together with María do Mar Castro Varela.

Additional we supported Studentprojects and a Workshop in cooperation with TanzQuartier.

We additional struggled with the university and Rektorat regarding their dismissal of Nour Shantout. Our positioning in this case was met with positive feedback throughout the different levels of the institution. Although there is more to be done in this matter.

Finally, we had beautiful student’s get togethers in which we had sweet exchanges. One small result of this was a signal group and an Instagram page that were out to life that very night we met.
